I believe only friends can join And, did you get any cabins built? Without cabins they can't join, even if you select multiplayer, you can either get Robin to build you some or start a new file, where on the left side you have the option to start with up to 3 cabins, which by default is at 0.
Multiplayer Commands Quick Guide
With the new addition of Multiplayer to Stardew Valley, there have been some newly added chat commands for the host and other players within the same game to use to communicate with each other. Everything is simple to enter, and only requires the use a forward slash (/) before each command.
PC
- Host or join a multiplayer game
- Press the ‘T’ key to open the chat interface
- Type the command you wish to use like so:
/example - Press the Enter key to submit the command

An active audio source of some kind is required in order to play Stardew Valley (this will be fixed in update 1.4). Apr 30, 2018 This is still being worked on, and we're aware this package dist doesn't apply to Linux players - a full fix is still in development! UPDATE: 1.3.10 is live on Steam and GOG. Lots of fixes included in this update - LAN Only option to connect, travelling cart out of stock message, and torch related framerate issues and more. UPDATE: 1.3.11 is live.

Description: Displays a list of commands that are available for you to use.
/help
Description: The full version of the previous command, displays a list of commands that are available for you to use.
/clear
Description: Completely clears the chat log within your game.
/color-list
Description: Displays a list of colors you’re able to use with the with the /color command, as well as the the [COLORNAME] prefix for coloring only single lines.
Full list of colors supported: white, red, blue, green, jade, yellowgreen, pink, purple, yellow, orange, brown, gray, cream, salmon, peach, aqua, jungle, plum
/color
Description: Sets your chat to appear in the specified color.
Arguments:
- [colorname] – enter a color that is supported by the game. See
/color-listcommand for a full list of colors.
/pause
Description: This command is available to the game host only! Pauses the game for everyone in the session. Additionally, you can enter this command to unpause the game, or use /resume.
/resume
Description: This command is available to the game host only! Resumes the game after a /pause.
/credits
Description: Displays a small list of game credits similar to what is shown by choosing the credits option within the main menu.
/list
Description: Displays a list of names of all players currently connected to your game world.
/users
Description: Displays a list of names of all players currently connected to your game world.
/players
Stardew Valley Multiplayer Mac
Description: Displays a list of names of all players currently connected to your game world.
/qi
Description: Outputs dialogue from Mr. Qi.
Mr. Qi: Hey, kid. Yeah, I'm here. What'd you expect.
Stardew Valley Multiplayer Switch
The second time you enter the command you’ll receive a slightly different message, but all other enters will revert back to the first message.
Mr. Qi: Hey... keep up the good work, and never stop striving for success! I'll see you soon, kid...
/concernedape
Description: Outputs dialogue from ConcernedApe.
ConcernedApe: Hello. I hope you're enjoying your new life here. Take care! [ConcernedApe Emoji]
After the first message, entering the command again will only display the following.
ConcernedApe is hard at work...
/ape
Description: Another option to reveal the ConcernedApe easter egg dialogue.
Developer Commands
The following list contains all of the currently known developer only commands. These only work with test versions of the game, and you won’t be able to enter them. Anytime you try to enter one of these commands, you’ll receive a message from ConcernedApe himself, reading:

Emojis & Chat Colors
Stardew Valley has its own full list of emojis for you to use within the game’s chat system, and allows for coloring of specific lines of text in case you’d like to send a message with a certain color, but not have your text be that color permanently.
Changing color of a single text line
Follow this format to color lines of chat: [color]text
- For example: “[red]Stardew Valley is awesome!”
- Displays in the chat as: “Stardew Valley is awesome!“
Use the /color-list command to view all available colors.
Using Emojis in chat
Entering Emojis into your chat is fairly straightforward, there are a total of 195 to use, and all you need to do is enter the number of the emoji you want to use inside some brackets so like: [1] There are [2] lots of emojis [3] in this [4] sentence.
