To determine what your numbers are, most eye doctors use the Snellen Chart. It has lines of letters on it that start out large at the top and end up small at the bottom. The 20/20 line is near the bottom of the chart. In a doctor's office, it is usually placed 20 feet away from you. If you can read the 20/20 line, you have 20/20 vision.
The vision test is one where you stand at one end of a hallway and read the chart on the other end. When you get to the Drivers License Office, you use a little machine to take the test. If a license is not restricted to corrective lenses and the person renewing the license is wearing glasses, he will be asked to remove the glasses and read letters from the eye chart. If the applicant's vision is below 20/40, he may have his vision further tested. I failed the DMV eye test. I don’t know why. Can somebody help me? Today I took an eye test from DC DMV. The staff told me to read line one. And I just read the numbers from left to right as she said. For no additional charge, your vision test can be completed at a DMV office. DMV staff are trained to administer the eye test. Patients who wear telescopic lenses, complete form MV-80L (dmv.ny.gov/forms) and mail it to the address on that form.

How to Use the Eye Chart
- Print the free eye chart on regular 8 1/2 x 11-inch paper
- Tack or tape the chart to a windowless wall in a well-lit room at eye level
- Measure ten feet from the wall
- Cover one eye (if you wear glasses for distance vision, keep them on)
- Have another person point to each line as you read the letters out loud and keep track of which letters you get right
- Continue to the bottom row or until you can no longer read the letters
- Write down the number of the smallest line where you identified the majority of letters correctly (Ex. If you were able to read 5 out of 8 letters on line 8, you would write 20/20.)
- Cover the other eye and repeat steps 5-7
What Do the Results Mean?
That depends on the age of the person being tested. A 3- to 4-year-old should be able to read the 20/40 line, and a 5-year-old the 20/30 line. Older children and adults should be able to read the majority of letters on the 20/20 line.

Anyone — regardless of age — getting their first drivers license in Florida must complete the Drug and Alcohol Course. Most new drivers are teenagers getting their learners permit but many are adults getting their first drivers license. Regardless the DATA Course, which teaches new drivers how drugs and alcohol effect your ability to drive must be completed before a new driver can apply for a Florida Learners Permit or Drivers License.

Regardless of the name, completing one of these courses is the first step toward getting a Florida Drivers License. Once a DATA course is completed the second step is to complete the DMV Test. The DMV Test is officially known as the knowledge exam.

Drivers License Testing
The drivers license test is given to determine the following:
- Can you read and understand road signs, traffic signals, and other highway markings?
- Do you know Florida rules for Driving?
- If your vision good enough to drive?
- Do you have the basic driving skills necessary to drive safely?
Vision Test
If you wear glasses or contact lenses to pass the vision test you will be required to wear them when driving. This will be indicated on your license with restriction code A.

To pass the vision test you must have 20/40 vision or better in each and both eyes with our without corrective lenses.
If your vision is 20/200 in one eye, you must have 20/40 vision in the other eye with or without corrective lenses.
The DMV Test
The DMV test is 50 questions. Typically about 5 of the questions are on Road Signs and the other 45 questions are on Rules and Regulations of driving in Florida.
